Description
Guppies have multiple purposes. They can offer you some life in your betta or community tanks as they are a very busy fish. They are also little pigs and will peck away at some left over food at the bottom of the tank, and as they breed and produce babies some of those babies become a source of food for the other fish in the tank. Its all part of a natural cycle in the tank.
I find most bettas are curious of the and may chase them from time to time but for the most part they tend to leave them alone.
If you are wanting to house a single male betta with some guppies I would suggest considering a 10 Gallon tank. This size of tank can house your betta and 1 to 2 trios of guppies safely with some room to add plants or decorations in your tank.
Guppies like bettas also like a low flow filter so they don’t get blown around. Because of this I do find if you do a gravel substrate at the bottom you can get a lot of build up. I always recommend a clean bottom tank. They are way easier to maintain and keep clean. If your worries about decorating your tank, you can use large rocks to decorate, and or live plants on logs. This is how all our tanks are set up.
